The Secretary of State for Justice has announced the appointment
of Tijs Broeke as Chair of the Prison Service Pay Review Body
(PSPRB). Tijs Broeke's appointment will be for a tenure of
3 years from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2028.
The PSPRB provides the government with independent advice on the
remuneration of operational prison staff in England, Wales and
Northern Ireland, as set out in The Prison Service (Pay Review
Body) Regulations 2001 (SI 2001 No. 1161).
Appointments to the PSPRB are regulated by the Commissioner for
Public Appointments and comply with the Governance Code on Public
Appointments. This appointment has been made in line with the
Commissioner's Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments to
Public Bodies.
Public appointments to the PSPRB are made by the Prime Minister.
Tijs Broeke biography
Tijs is a senior communications and public policy professional
with over 20 years of experience working in both public and
private organisations with a background in the criminal justice
sector, transport infrastructure and technology.
Tijs is an experienced non-executive board member. He currently
serves as Chair of the City of London Police Authority, Chair of
the National Cyber Resilience Centre Group and is a Board Member
of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners. In
September 2023 he was appointed by the Mayor of London to the
London Policing Board. Tijs has frontline policing experience as
a Special Constable and served as trustee at Working Change – a
charity supporting women with convictions into employment. Having
previously worked for the then Equal Opportunities Commission,
Tijs is a keen advocate for social mobility, for example through
his work as Chair of the Board of Governors at London
Metropolitan University since July 2022, and previously as
trustee and Chair of the City of London Academies Trust
supporting 12 schools across inner-London. In addition, Tijs is
Deputy Chair of the Board at the globally renowned Barbican
Centre, and Chair of its Finance and Risk Committee.
