MOD data breach: Committee Chair presses Information Commissioner for details

Dame Chi Onwurah, Chair of the cross-party Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, has written to the Information Commissioner about his organisation's response to the Ministry of Defence Afghan data breach.  

The Secretary of State for Defence confirmed that the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) was alerted to the 2022 data breach within 72 hours of it coming to light. Today's letter asks the ICO to provide greater transparency about its response, and about its usual practice for handling such leaks. 

The Chair has asked for a response by Thursday 31 July.
