How can we boost media literacy across the UK? Lords Committee to report next week

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will next week publish its report on improving media literacy.

Media literacy – the ability to think critically about content created and consumed on and offline – is essential at a time when people are increasingly relying on online sources of information and trust in news and public institutions is low. Poor media literacy levels pose a threat to individuals, social cohesion and democracy itself.

The report will set out recommendations for changes to how media literacy is taught in schools, improving media literacy for adults, ensuring tech companies play an appropriate role in supporting media literacy initiatives and the appropriate roles for Ofcom and government in responding to the challenge.
