Lords social mobility inquiry concludes by hearing from Government Ministers

The House of Lords Social Mobility Policy Committee concludes its inquiry on Thursday 17 July by hearing from Government Ministers Baroness Smith of Malvern and Alison McGovern MP.  

The session begins at 10.05am in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

• Baroness Smith of Malvern,
  Minister for Skills, Department for Educations (DfE);
  
  
• Alison McGovern MP,
  Minister for Employment, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
  
  

Members are expected to ask questions on:

• how the Government's recently announced £1bn support plan, Opportunity Mission and White Paper, Get Britain Working, improve social mobility;
  
  
• the Growth and Skills (Apprenticeship) Levy;
  
  
• how central and local government work together in relation to social mobility;
  
  
• the increase in the number of young people who are NEET;
  
  
• the role of job centres in helping those who have fallen out of education and work back into the labour market;
  
  
• UK data sets currently collected and shared to analyse socio-economic background, disadvantage and/or social mobility.
