Written statement (Wales): New Chair to the Board of Transport for Wales: appointment of Vernon Everitt - July 14

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales: Following the publication of the CCEI Committee's report on their pre-appointment hearing with Vernon Everitt, my preferred candidate for the new Chair of TfW, I have decided to appoint Mr Everitt to the role. 

I am grateful to the committee for its pre-appointment scrutiny and I am pleased that the committee shares my view that Mr Everitt is very well placed to become the new Chair of Transport for Wales.  

As highlighted in their report, there are considerable delivery challenges ahead for TfW with the delivery of bus franchising, completing the transformation of the CVL, developing the Network North Wales programme, as well as maintaining improvements to rail performance. I will also be publishing my letter to him highlighting my priorities for the role and expectations of him. 

I attach great importance to the role of the Chair and the work of Transport for Wales and I look forward to him continuing the success of his predecessor Scott Waddington.
