Public Accounts Committee launches fourteen new inquiries

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today announces its next slate of upcoming inquiries, providing scrutiny of Government spending and delivery across a range of Government Departments.

The programme of inquiries, to held over the coming months, was selected by members of the Committee, in discussions led by the Chair of the Committee, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP.

Each inquiry is informed by the work of the National Audit Office (NAO). Committee members will use NAO reports as a starting point and agreed factual basis from which to conduct their scrutiny to hold government to account for how it spends public money.

The inquiries are as follows:

• BBC finances 2024-25
• Costs of clinical negligence
• Efficiency and resilience of the Probation Service
• Faulty energy efficiency installations
• Financial sustainability of adult hospices in England
• Financial sustainability of children's care homes
• Government compensation schemes
• Home-to-school transport
• Increasing police productivity
• Ministry of Justice follow-up: Summer 2025
• NS&I's transformation programme
• Tackling fraud and error in benefit expenditure 2024-25
• The UK's F-35 stealth fighter capability
• Whole of Government Accounts 2023-24

The Committee has also changed the names of two existing inquiries:

• Government services: Identifying costs and generating income (from Government fees, charges and levies)
• Government use of data analytics and external consultants (from Government use of data analytics to make fraud and error savings)
