Tuesday 15 July,
10.15, Thatcher Room, Portcullis House
Officials from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) will
appear before the Treasury Committee in a two-part session next
Tuesday morning.
First, the Chair of the OBR will discuss the Fiscal Risks and Sustainability
report alongside Budget Responsibility Committee (BRC)
members, Tom Josephs and Professor David Miles.
This will then be followed by a separate re-appointment hearing
to approve or veto the appointment of Richard Hughes as Chair of
the OBR for a second and final five-year term of office.
In the first part of the session, Members of the Committee are
likely to scrutinise the areas which the OBR has highlighted in
this year's report, including three key risks to the public
finances: pensions, public sector debt and climate change. MPs
may also choose to question witnesses on the impact of recent
changes to the Government's spending plans.
In the second half, the Committee will consider Mr Hughes'
reappointment against its usual criteria of personal independence
and appropriate professional competence.
