Infrastructure Minister welcomes the completion of the
procurement process for the first in a series of framework
contracts that will be used to deliver resurfacing projects
across the road network. Seven local companies will benefit from
the award of this framework and they will be engaged to carry out
road resurfacing and improvement schemes which will improve the
condition of the road network and benefit the local economy.
Minister Kimmins said: “This framework, and the others to
follow, will allow the delivery of road and bridge projects
efficiently and this will help us achieve value for money with
the funding allocated to my Department. I am committed to
ensuring that we have safer, better-connected roads that support
local communities and economic growth, while also supporting
local supply chains, and comply with sustainability
goals.”
The new four-year framework will be used to deliver high-quality
resurfacing works in Newry & Mourne, North Belfast, Mid &
East Antrim, Cookstown & Magherafelt and Omagh, and over its
life the contract will spend an estimated £240 million.
The Minister concluded: “I want to develop a road network
that meets the needs of all users — commuters, businesses,
pedestrians and cyclists. This framework is a key tool in
delivering that commitment and I look forward to seeing the works
delivered by it in the months and years ahead.”
