CPRE responds to government social housing targets

Responding the government's social housing targets, CPRE head of planning and policy Paul Miner said:

'More than 230,000 people are on waiting lists for social rented homes in rural England. This number is increasing year on year. CPRE has long called for ambitious and enforceable targets for new social rented homes, so the new Social and Affordable Homes Programme is a step in the right direction.   

'We now urge the government to bring in specific targets and planning policies for rural areas to make sure that they don't miss out. Backing small- and medium-sized builders, as well as local authorities, would help bring quality, innovation and local knowledge to any new developments.'
