Minister for Investment and British Business Bank questioned on financing and scaling-up UK science and technology companies

On Tuesday 1 July the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will continue its inquiry Financing and Scaling UK Science and Technology: Innovation, investment, industry.  

The committee will hear from:   

10:15am  

• Louis Taylor, CEO at British Business Bank   

11.15am 

• Baroness Gustafsson CBE, Minister of State for Investment at Department for Business and Trade 

• Ceri Smith, Director General, Office for Investment at Department for Business and Trade 

• Matt Henty, Deputy Director, Science and Technology & Access to Finance at HM Treasury  

The evidence session will take place in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster and will be available to watch live from 10.15 or on demand on Parliamentlive.tv.    

The Committee is expected to cover topics including what British Business Bank's overall strategy is to turn more start-ups into scale-ups that stay and scale in the UK.   

The Committee is also expected to ask the Minister questions on the following topics: 

• Foreign direct investment 

• The pull of the US for science and technology firms 

• Scale-up capital 

• Coordination and strategy to support businesses to scale, including the role of the Treasury and cross-government co-ordination.
