Scottish Affairs Committee will hold two evidence sessions on
Wednesday 2 July, examining support for military
veterans in Scotland in the morning, before quizzing Energy Minister,
Michael Shanks, on the future of North Sea energy in the
afternoon.
At 9:30am, MPs will explore issues surrounding support for
military veterans in Scotland. In this one-off evidence session,
the committee will hear evidence from the Scottish Veterans
Commissioner and Veterans Scotland, who are likely to be asked
about the transition from service to civilian life.
MPs may also ask witnesses about provision of healthcare for
veterans, interaction veterans have with the justice system, as
well as problems with accessing housing and homelessness. Other
questions could explore employment opportunities and the
possibility of extending the Armed Forces Covenant's legal duty
to devolved governments.
At 2:30pm, the cross-party committee will quiz the Energy
Minister, Michael Shanks, on the North Sea energy transition as
part of its inquiry into GB Energy and the transition to net
zero.
Members will likely question the Minister on the government's
consultation on the North Sea's energy future, transitioning
workers to clean energy jobs and changes to the oil and gas
industry's fiscal and regulatory environment. Questions may also
focus on the closure of the Grangemouth oil refinery and the
progress of Project Willow proposals.
