The Law Society of England and Wales welcomes the government's
new Trade Strategy recognising its strong focus on the legal
sector as a key driver of growth and job creation.
Law Society President Richard Atkinson said: “We are pleased to
see legal services at the heart of the new Trade Strategy and the
UK government's ambition to make us the most connected nation in
the world. This will help to further support the UK's export of
legal services and our status as a global leader.
“This strategy emphasises that Free Trade Agreements are an
important tool to remove market access barriers - but importantly
that they are not the only way to do so.
“We are proud to see the Law Society's work in Japan being noted
as a key example of how to successfully address non-tariff
barriers.
“As the first Trade Strategy since the UK exited the EU, it is
right that there is an ambition for an improved relationship with
our closest trading partner.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the government to
secure better market access for our members, improvements to
business mobility and to secure the mutual recognition of
professional qualifications.”
