On Tuesday morning, the Housing, Communities and Local Government
(HCLG) Committee holds a one-off evidence session looking at the
subject of community cohesion and following up on issues raised
from the riots across England in summer 2024.
The cross-party Committee will hear from witnesses including Imam
Ibrahim Hussein, Chair, Southport Mosque, which was attacked
during the riots; alongside Baroness OBE, CEO, Muslim Women's
Network, Dame Sara Khan, Author, The Khan Review: Threats to
Social Cohesion and Democratic Resilience, and Professor Ted
Cantle, Author, The Cantle Report on Community Cohesion: A
New Framework for Race and Diversity.
Details of further witnesses are included in the full witness
list below.
MPs are expected to ask questions on topics including the causes
and personal experience of the riots, impact of the riots on the
Muslim community, local and community responses to the riots.
The Committee are also likely to explore issues around social
cohesion across the UK and the Government's response to reviews
and reports in this area.
