People are being encouraged to swap their car journeys for public
transport and active travel as part of Better Transport
Week (16-22 June).
Better Transport Week is an annual celebration of how better
transport can help connect communities and bring people together.
This year, the week takes place from 16 to 22 June and is funded
by the UK Government.
Packed with fun events, powerful actions, competitions and
special offers, it's a chance to celebrate how sustainable
transport can connect us to the people we love and the things
that matter.
Ben Plowden, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport,
said: “We're delighted to have so many organisations on board
this year's Better Transport Week to help us celebrate how better
transport can help connect communities and bring people together.
Good public transport networks help connect us to the people we
love, the things we need and the places that matter, creating
thriving places and stronger communities, and building a fairer
future for everyone.”
Better Transport Week is being launched at Leeds and Cardiff
Railway Stations today (16 June) with further events planned
throughout the week: on Tuesday (17 June) Plymouth will launch
its new fleet of 50 electric buses; on Wednesday (18 June) Local
Transport Minister, , will visit Coventry to
see the city's very light rail project; and on Friday (20 June)
delegates will gather at Manchester Metropolitan University for
the Better Transport Conference.
said: “Better Transport
Week is a brilliant chance to shine a light on the local
transport champions who keep passengers moving, and to swap ideas
and build the relationships that make our transport networks
stronger.
“With the changes we're bringing in — giving local leaders more
control over buses, taking our railways back into public hands,
and making huge investments into road infrastructure — this
year's theme of connecting communities couldn't be more relevant.
“We understand how important good public transport is to help
people access jobs, stay close to loved ones, and improve quality
of life, as part of our Plan for Change.”
Bauer Media Outdoor are sponsoring Better Transport Week 2025.
Neil Chapman, Product Design Director - UK & Europe, Bauer
Media Outdoor, said: “This year's theme of connecting
communities aligns perfectly with our
commitment to provide infrastructure that meets the needs of
everyday bus users and encourages more bus use. We're proud to
partner with Campaign for Better Transport on this event and
support the drive for better transport to bring people closer
together.”
