Overview
The Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme is investing over
£420 million between 2021 and 2026 to support facilities across
the whole of the UK. This programme provides funding to make
essential facility improvements, so that communities have a
high-quality pitch to play on, and is a clear demonstration of
the government's commitment to improve access to facilities
across the United Kingdom.
The projects were selected as part of the 2021 to 2022 programme
for their ability to deliver improved facilities in deprived
areas, support multi-sport use and increase participation among
currently under-represented groups — this focuses primarily on
women and girls, disabled players and those in deprived areas.
Please note: project lists and maps were updated in June 2025 to
reflect revised project funding information from delivery
partners. Maps will be updated shortly to reflect any relevant
changes.
Successful projects
The projects which benefited from funding in 2021 to 2022 were
confirmed following the announcement of £25 million at Spring
Budget 2021.
The 2021 to 2022 programme was delivered by DCMS's delivery
partners. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the programme
is delivered by the relevant Football Association. In England,
the programme is delivered by the Football Foundation.
Please note that the project lists below are provided by DCMS's
delivery partners, and the information may change as the projects
develop. For example, a project may withdraw from the programme,
or rolling investment might mean further projects are added in
future. The spreadsheets will be updated where needed to reflect
these changes.
England
In England, government funding is supporting 152 projects through
the Football Foundation. This is made up of £18 million of
existing government commitments to grassroots sports, and a
further £21 million from the Chancellor's Spring Budget 2021.
Partnered with funding from the FA and Premier League, this
investment will directly benefit communities up and down the
country. The projects cover a wide range of interventions, from
artificial pitch provision to changing room improvements,
depending on community needs.
These locally led projects are helping to make the Local Football Football
Facility Plans a reality, and to take us one step closer to
delivering the pitches every community needs.
The list below shows the projects which received funding in the
financial year 2021 to 2022.
