MS, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet
Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs: In accordance
with the inter-institutional relations agreement, I can report to
Members I attended the BIC Environment Ministerial meeting on 8
May at Key Gardens.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez,
President – Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure,
States of Guernsey, from the Government of Guernsey; Timmy Dooley
TD, Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Environment
and Energy with special responsibility for the Marine, from the
Government of Ireland; Minister Clare Barber, MHK from the Isle
of Man Government; Deputy Steve Luce, Minister for the
Environment from the Government of Jersey; MLA, Minister of Agriculture,
Environment and Rural Affairs, MLA, Junior Minister in the Executive, and MLA, Junior Minister in the
Executive, all from the Northern Ireland Executive; Dr MSP, Acting Minister for
Climate Action from the Scottish Government; and MP, Parliamentary
Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Nature) from the UK
Government.
We endorsed the report on the Environment Work Sector between
2020-2024. We also agreed a restructure of the Work Sector going
forward and I was pleased that we all agreed the restructure
should take forward the circular economy as our next topic of
focus. As you know this is a priority in Wales and we have a lot
of excellent work we can build upon.
Finally, we agreed a work plan for a new Invasive Species Work
Sector which will take forward the work of the Invasive
Non-Native Species subgroup and the Asian Hornet Taskforce
subgroup.
