Today (April 22) the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold an
evidence session hearing from a leading Israeli opposition
politician as part of its inquiry into the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict. The Committee's inquiry has focused on
proposals for a two-state solution to the long-running conflict
between Israelis and Palestinians.
In the first panel, Committee Members will hear from Shelly Tal
Meron, Member of the Knesset and the centrist Yesh Atid Party.
Last year, Ms Meron said that the Israeli government's failure to
plan for the “day after” the Gaza war ends was a “huge strategic
mistake”.
In the second panel, the Committee will question Natasha
Hausdorff, a barrister at 6 Pump Court Chambers, focusing on
international law and its applicability in the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In the third panel, Members will hear from Jonathan Sacerdoti, a
journalist who previously served as UK correspondent for the
Israeli TV channel i24news, on the reasoning behind the policies
of the Israeli government in its handling of the Gaza war and
relations with Palestinians.
Questions are likely to focus on what steps the UK needs to take
to support a renewed ceasefire and a long-term peaceful
resolution to the
conflict.
