Infrastructure Minister has announced investment of
£1.43million to improve roads and active travel infrastructure
this week.
The schemes in counties Antrim and Down will bring long term
benefits for all roads users. The first scheme will see a
£580,000 investment in pedestrian and cycling infrastructure for
Belfast. The work to upgrade 1.2km of the Stranmillis
Embankment eastern footway and cycle track commenced on Monday.
A £375,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on
Hillsborough Old Road, Lisburn also commenced earlier this week.
Meanwhile a £475,000 carriageway resurfacing and footway scheme
on A2 Chapel Road, Cushendall will commence on Monday 3 February
2025. This scheme will extend from Gaults Road to Mill
Street, Cushendall.
Minister O'Dowd said: “The schemes I have announced this
week represent an investment of £1.43million in our roads and
active travel infrastructure. This essential work
demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which
is not only important for local residents and businesses, but for
the overall economy too. I am also committed to delivering
improved infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.
“I would like to thank residents, local businesses and
commuters for their patience while work on these essential
schemes continues.”
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic
management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. Road
users should expect some delays and are advised to allow
additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and
are asked to comply with all temporary traffic
restrictions.
