Deputy First Minister addresses the Scottish Renewables Offshore
Wind Conference in Glasgow, 22 January 2025
Scotland's economy is at the beginning of a new era, Deputy First
Minister told the Scottish Renewables'
Offshore Wind Conference.
She highlighted the raft of recent investments boosting the
offshore wind supply chain, including cable manufacturing plants
at Nigg and Hunterston.
The Deputy First Minister said:
“We are now seeing major manufacturing for offshore wind projects
happening on Scottish soil.
“This signals the beginning of a new era, where Scotland leads in
both generating energy and producing the components that make it
possible.
“But we are only at the beginning. With every investment, every
partnership, every innovation, we are getting closer to a
Scotland that is greener, fairer and more prosperous for all.
“We cannot stop here. We need more: more investment, more bold
steps forward, more commitment from every corner of our economy.
“Through these actions we will unlock the true potential of
offshore wind. The choices we make today will shape the future of
generations to come.”
Background
The draft Scottish Budget 2025/26 would triple capital funding
for offshore wind to £150 million. This is part of the Scottish
Government's commitment to invest up to £500 million over five
years to unlock private investment and provide market certainty.
