Scottish Climate Action Minister responds to UK Clean Power 2030 Action Plan

Acting Climate Action Minister Alasdair Allan has responded to the UK Government's publication of its 'Clean Power 2030 Action Plan'. 

Dr Allan said: “Scotland's significant renewable potential, strong pipeline of projects, and growing supply chain will be vital to achieving a secure, affordable and clean power system.

“So it is crucial that the UK Government's work to support clean power and any electricity system reforms respects devolved powers, ambitions and policies, and ensures investor and industry confidence.

“It is also critical that the UK Government supports delivery of clean power in a way that provides a clear legacy and defined benefits for consumers and communities across the country – supporting the Scottish Government's commitment to ensure a fair and just transition to net zero. Energy consumers – both in Scotland and elsewhere – must benefit from the lower costs of renewable electricity and there must be protections in place for the most vulnerable, including those living in or at risk of fuel poverty.

“We will continue working closely with the UK Government to ensure Scotland's interests are fully considered with regards to this plan.”
