Education Minister, has today welcomed the
publication of a report on the responses to the School Uniform
Policy consultation.
Thanking everyone who participated in the consultation said: “I am very
grateful to the large numbers of individuals and organisations
who contributed to the School Uniform Policy consultation. Their
input was invaluable.
“The consultation received a high response rate, with
almost 7,500 responses, and 77% of respondents
were in favour of making guidance on school uniform policy
statutory.
“Of the responses received more than 50% were from
children and young people, and their top priorities were cost and
comfort.”
The consultation ran for 14 weeks from 20 June 2024 – 27
September 2024.
The Minister continued: “Since taking up
my post as Minister, I have been clear that I want to create a
system where schools, supported by appropriate legislation and
policy, will ensure that their uniforms are affordable for
all.
“The consultation clearly indicates
significant support for the current direction of travel
and I am committed to bringing forward the
necessary legislation in the coming weeks.”
