Members of Parliament are voting to elect committee chairs in the
House of Commons.
Since 2010, most committee chairs have been elected by the whole
House, by using the alternative vote system. The House agreed a
motion to allocate committee chairs to parties on 30 July.
Members can only be candidates for a committee chair post that
has been allocated to their party.
The ballot opens at 10am and closes at 4pm. MPs are issued with
separate ballot papers for each committee. They vote by ranking
candidates in order of preference. They can indicate as few or as
many preferences as they wish. The results will be published once
they have been announced in the House of Commons. All candidates
(including those elected unopposed) and their supporting
statements are published on individual committee pages.
Elections will take place for the following select
committees appointed under Standing Order No.
