The Scottish Government has published responses to Investing in
Planning: a consultation on resourcing Scotland's planning
system.
Views were sought on proposals to improve the delivery of
planning services, including smarter ways of working, getting
more people to consider a career in planning and alternative
approaches to financing.
The introduction of a Planning Hub and an annual inflationary
increase to planning fees were the most popular proposals.
Responses were received from individuals and communities,
professionals and agencies operating in the sector, planning
authorities and the third sector.
Reforming Scotland's planning system will mean good quality
homes, infrastructure that helps with net zero ambitions and more
job opportunities.
Public Finance Minister said:
“An efficient, effective and well-resourced planning system
benefits communities across Scotland. We must build capacity and
skills to enable good quality development that improves places,
improves quality of life, and helps us grow our economy, whilst
supporting the transition to net zero.
“I am grateful to the 140 organisations and individuals who have
shared their contributions to this important consultation.
Cross-sector collaboration is vital to address the challenges we
face, including capacity of the Scottish planning system and the
financial climate we operate in.
“I look forward to setting out the next steps on improvements to
the planning system when the Scottish Parliament returns after
recess."
