ASCL comment on rise in number of pupils with special educational needs

Responding to new figures from the Department for Education showing
that more than 1.6 million pupils in England have special
educational needs, Pepe Di'Iasio, General Secretary of the
Association of School and College Leaders, said: “The sharp
increase in the number of children with special educational needs –
particularly those with complex needs that require an education,
health and care plan – is clearly unsustainable in a system that is
