Please note that DVA services were impacted by industrial strike
action on 22nd September 2023 and 18th January 2024, so testing
volumes for these months are lower than would have been the case
had these been routine working days.
Vehicle Testing
The DVA conducted just over 92,314 vehicle tests in April 2024 of
which 79,194 (85.8%) were full tests, and 13,120 (14.2%) were
retests. The 79,194 full tests are 40.7% (22,895) above the
five-year April average (56,299) and the third highest April
volume in the series, from 2014/15. Private cars accounted for
80.1% (63,400) of all full vehicle tests delivered in April 2024.

The DVA received 102,117 applications for a full vehicle test
during April 2024.
Driving Practical Testing
Just over eight in every 10 practical driving tests carried out
in April 2024, 83% (4,431), were private car
tests.
During April 2024, the DVA received 6,340 applications for a
practical driving test.
Driver Theory Testing
In April 2024, the DVA delivered 8,445, driver theory tests which
is just over 8% (656) higher than for the same month in 2023
(7,789).
The DVA received 9,082 applications for a driver theory test
during April 2024.
