Alison McGovern responds to new figures showing record fraud and error in benefit system

Alison McGovern MP, Labour's Acting Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to new government statistics published today showing record levels of fraud and error in the benefit system, said:

"Over the last four years, the Tories have lost an eye-watering £35 billion of taxpayers' money to benefit fraud and error.

"Rishi Sunak has left the till open to organised crime and presided over record levels of fraud in the benefit system.

"Labour is the party of sound money. We will protect the public purse and clamp down on benefit fraud."
