SNP mark international day to combat islamophobia

The SNP has marked the International Day to Combat Islamophobia by warning against growing intolerance and renewing calls for all political parties to play their part in eradicating anti-Muslim hate crimes.

With a recent rise in islamophobic attacks, the SNP has called attention to people around the world who are harassed, detained, imprisoned, or even killed for practicing Islam.

The SNP’s Women and Equalities Spokesperson, Kirsten Oswald MP, has said that the International Day to Combat Islamophobia provides an opportunity to commit to ending anti-Muslim hatred and to show support for Muslim communities across Scotland.

Commenting, Kirsten Oswald MP said:

“All political parties must step up and play their part in eradicating all forms of hatred and discrimination from society.

"On this International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we should all commit to tackling all forms of anti-Muslim hatred.

“During the Holy month of Ramadan, Muslims across Scotland deserve to feel safe to practice their religion and celebrate their faith. 

“We all have a responsibility to call out intolerance, prejudice and anti-Muslim hatred in all its forms.

"But words and promises are not enough. Only action can show our commitment to eradicating anti-Muslim hatred for good."
