Today [THURSDAY] , Leader of the Labour Party
will tell high level business executives that his party will "do
the hard yards, roll up our sleeves and get under the bonnet to
fix an unprecedented stagnation in British productivity growth"
as he and Shadow Chancellor, , launch the Party’s plan for
business.
The landmark event in central London will be attended by 400
senior business leaders, including FTSE 100 CEOs from a range of
companies, as well as 200 international investors and
international ambassadors. Tickets for the event sold out in four
hours and hundreds were on the waiting list to attend.
Welcoming the audience of c-suite
executives for the Conference, Starmer will say their presence
shows the scale of the changed Labour Party, claiming Labour is
the party of business:
“The depth of the changes we’ve made to transform the Labour
Party’s relationship with business is something I take immense
pride in. Your presence here is a testament to the changes we
have made over the past four years.
“So, all the hard work that has taken us to this point is a
vindication and a recognition of that guiding belief. Not just
that Labour could be the party of business, but that Labour
should be the party of business, and that now, four years on,
Labour is the party of business.
Lamenting the dismal growth and state of government
perma-crisis, stifling the conditions for growth, the Labour
leader will say:
“You can’t overstate what the British people have been through in
the past fourteen years. It’s not just the permanent cycle of
crisis, there is something much more fundamentally broken in the
way this country creates wealth.
“Fifteen years of lost wage growth and an economy with weak
foundations that, even in the calmer moments, can’t provide the
security working people need to look forward doesn’t just hold
back our potential but also rips up the contract and values that
keep a country together. It undermines the sense that if you work
hard and play by the rules, you will have a chance in Britain and
the future will be better for your children.
Unveiling Labour’s plan for business to deliver growth
and prosperity across to every corner of the nation, Starmer will
say:
“Today we launch this new plan, this new purpose, this new
partnership with five priorities to unite behind. Five steps we
can take together to begin our walk towards a Britain with its
future back.”
The Labour leader will outline steps to get Britain building
again after fourteen years of stagnation. Starmer will
also set out plans for skills
to drive growth; the need to partner with business to
make work pay for working people; backing British business; and
creating the stable economic conditions required for delivering
growth.
Labour has long been clear that its growth mission, to achieve
the highest sustained growth in the G7, will be the central plank
underpinning the focus of an incoming Labour government.
The document, titled ‘Labour's Partnership with Business for
Growth’, will set out the framework for Labour’s partnership with
business and the role of business in Labour’s five national
missions.

Among the business leaders in attendance will be Richard Walker,
the Executive Chairman of Iceland Supermarkets, and former
Conservative Party member. Earlier this week Walker announced he
was switching support to Labour, saying that Keir Starmer’s party
is “the right choice for everyone in business who wants to see
this country grow and prosper.”
Last year, Larry Fink, chairman and chief executive of BlackRock
and one of the world’s most influential investors, said that
offered “hope” and “real
strength” as a leader.
