TUC - Workers’ rights reforms are “crumbs” compared to full employment bill the Tories promised

Labour’s New Deal “stands in stark contrast” with government’s record on rights and would be “transformative for working people”

Commenting on today’s (Monday) government announcements on workers’ rights, TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said:   

“Today’s reheated announcements are crumbs for working people compared to the full employment bill the Conservatives promised in their manifesto.    

“These small changes do nothing to address the boom in insecure work and zero hours contracts which has taken place on the Tories’ watch.    

”If ministers really cared about workers’ rights, they wouldn’t have let P&O Ferries get away scot-free after their shameful mass sacking of 800 dedicated seafarers.    

“Labour’s plan stands in stark contrast to the government’s dire record on workers’ rights.    

“Its New Deal for Working People would ban zero hours contracts, end fire and rehire and boost sick pay – with an employment bill in the first 100 days of a Labour government.   

“It would be transformative for working people in every of the corner of the country.”
