Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian says the latest A&E
figures in NHS Lothian are “truly terrifying”.
Jeremy Balfour’s remarks come after the latest monthly A&E
figures for Scotland showed only 70 per cent of patients were
seen within the SNP Government’s target time of four hours in
September.
In NHS Lothian 63.2% were seen within four hours. However, at The
Royal Infirmary only 49.7% were seen within four hours.
says that these
“intolerable delays” are leading to needless, excess deaths in
the Lothians
He has blamed the SNP’s “dire workforce planning” and Humza
Yousaf’s flimsy NHS Recovery Plan from two years ago as root
causes behind the “shocking” A&E waiting time figures.
has called on SNP health
secretary to urgently get a grip on
the crisis, otherwise patients and dedicated staff will face a
“winter of chaos” in A&E.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP said: “The latest
A&E waiting times in NHS Lothian paint a truly terrifying
picture.
“Despite the best efforts of frontline NHS staff, more and more
patients are suffering intolerable waits at A&E. We know that
these lead to needless, excess deaths.
“Successive SNP health secretaries have been guilty of dire
workforce planning which has left A&E services in NHS Lothian
dangerously short of staff, while Humza Yousaf’s flimsy NHS
Recovery Plan has miserably failed to remobilise our NHS.
“These figures are shocking and, worryingly, they pre-date the
peak winter period. SNP health secretary has failed to plan
adequately for this winter and needs to urgently get a grip of
this crisis.
“Otherwise suffering patients and staff in NHS Lothian will
suffer yet another winter of unacceptable chaos on the SNP’s
watch.”
