MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign
Secretary, will today (Monday 30th October) arrive in Jordan for
the start of a three day visit to the Middle East, where he will
meet with the Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Qatar and Egypt to
discuss the Israel-Hamas war, the humanitarian emergency in Gaza,
the release of hostages, regional de-escalation and a long term
political process for peace.
On his three-day visit to the region, Lammy will meet with
Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Ayman Safadi, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Egypt's
Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, as well as other politicians,
officials and NGOs.
Lammy will restate Labour’s support for humanitarian pauses and
immediate, unimpeded access for food, water, fuel, medicine and
electricity into Gaza, as well as the essential need for a
longer-term political process in support of a two-state
solution.
Jordan, Qatar and Egypt are three of the most pivotal countries
in the region in relation to the Israel-Hamas war. Jordan is a
crucial diplomatic actor on Palestinian issues. Qatar is playing
a central role in talks to secure the release of the more than
200 Israeli and international hostages. Egypt is the only other
country to border Gaza and the Rafah crossing remains the only
route for aid to get in.
