The Prime Minister then provided an update on his travel to the Middle East, saying he was struck by the desire for the UK to continue playing a leading role in seeking de-escalation. He said the humanitarian situation in Gaza was continuing to decline which was why he had announced a new aid package for Palestinian civilians. Alongside this he confirmed that Royal Navy assets would remain in the Gulf to help avoid the possibility of regional escalation.

He reassured Cabinet that both he and the Foreign Secretary were doing everything in their power to secure the release of British nationals being held in Gaza, including through discussions with leaders in the region.
