Make your donation safely
Donations through established and well-coordinated emergency
response appeal mechanisms, such as the appeal by
the UN Relief
and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) and
the British Red
Cross are the most effective way to support populations
in crisis.
Individuals wishing to help Gazans at this time are recommended
to follow this route, or through other trusted aid organisations.
If you wish to donate to other trusted organisations, there are
some simple steps you can take to ensure your money is safe and
being used effectively:
- check the charity’s name and registration number using
the search the charity
register tool
- most charities with an income of £5,000 or more must be
registered, which means they are regulated by The Charity
Commission
- make sure the charity is genuine before giving any financial
information
- if in doubt, ask the charity or organisation for more
information
Donating essential supplies
One of the best ways to help is by donating cash through trusted
charities and aid organisations, rather than donating goods.
Currently, delivering aid into Gaza is complex and reliant on the
Rafah border crossing.
The UK government is not able to provide advice to individuals or
organisations on shipments (for example, transport, logistics,
tax, customs).
Donating as a UK company
UK companies wishing to donate are recommended to follow the
guidance above and donate through established emergency response
appeal mechanisms, or through other trusted aid organisations.
Where private sector organisations wish to explore in kind
donations, we encourage them to explore opportunities through any
existing partnerships with the UN, the Red Cross or
non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that they already have in
place; or reach out to established charities registered with
the Charity
Commission for England and Wales, Charity
Commission for Northern Ireland, Office of the Scottish Charity
Regulator and the Fundraising
Regulator.
The government has published guidance for organisations
operating in high-risk jurisdictions. This is intended to
support them to deliver vital and legitimate humanitarian aid,
while complying with counter-terrorism legislation and/or
sanctions.
