Alex Norris responds to claims that violent attacks on shop workers are not being responded to

Alex Norris MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister, responding to the Association of Convenience Stores letter to Police and Crime Commissioners over violent attacks on shop workers not being responded to, said:

"Britain's high streets are facing soaring rates of reported shoplifting and abuse of shop workers, but they are being let down by a government that cannot keep the streets safe.  

"During the last decade the government have cut neighbourhood policing by 10,000 officers. Labour will build back neighbourhood policing with 13,000 more officers and PCSOs in our neighbourhoods. This will include a designated officer to support each local high street.

"While the Tories take a back seat and blame local forces when things go wrong, Labour will lead an active Home Office with a clear mission to make our streets safe."
