Bridget Phillipson responds to DFE figures showing just four schools have been rebuilt through the 2021 School Rebuilding Programme

Bridget Phillipson MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the Department of Education’s own figures showing only four schools have been rebuilt as part of the 2021 School Rebuilding Programme, said:

“The defining image of 13 years of education under the Conservatives will be children cowering under steel props to stop the ceiling from falling on their heads.

“This a Prime Minister and a Conservative government that has run from its responsibility to keep children safe in school by cutting the number of schools for rebuilding and is now only building them at a snail’s pace.

“Rishi Sunak needs to take responsibility for his role in this debacle, stop sitting on his hands and get a grip of this mess.”
