More than 2,000 dangerous prisoners – including violent thugs,
rapists and robbers - have escaped, absconded, or been released in
error over the last decade under the Tories, leaving the public at

2012 more than three prisoners have left prison unlawfully every

The Conservatives have gone so soft on crime that since 2012 more than three prisoners have left prison unlawfully every week, new analysis from the Labour Party has found. Over the last year alone, eight prisoners have escaped, 63 absconded and 71 prisoners have been released in error. These figures come following a series of high-profile cases in which dangerous criminals have been left to roam the streets. Earlier this year Rayon Newby, who was serving a sentence for assault, harassment and burglary offences at HMP Thameside in Greenwich, was released in error. Last year the sex offender William Fernandez was released in error from HMP Wormwood Scrubs in London. After his accidental release, he raped a 16-year-old girl and sexually assaulted a young woman. The Conservatives have created chaos in the criminal justice system. After 13 years, they have had 10 different Justice Secretaries and are focused on fighting amongst themselves rather than fighting crime. Labour has made it a national mission to make Britain’s streets safe and raise confidence in the police and criminal justice system to its highest levels, within a decade. Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary Steve Reed said: “This Conservative Government can’t do the basic job of keeping dangerous criminals locked up. The public will be horrified that so many violent criminals, rapists and robbers have been let out unlawfully. “Rishi Sunak must come clean and explain why the Conservatives are on the side of criminals, not the law-abiding majority. “Labour is the party of law and order.
