John Healey speaks ahead of the NATO Summit

John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, speaking ahead of the NATO Summit, said

“We want British leadership at NATO’s Summit to strengthen support for Ukraine and secure Britain’s defence for the future. If UK military support for Ukraine is accelerated, this will have Labour’s total backing.

“But it’s embarrassing for the Prime Minister to go to Vilnius as one of only five NATO nations that has not rebooted defence plans since President Putin invaded Ukraine. Britain faces increased threats, yet the Tories are cutting the Army further and leaving our troops are without vital kit they need to fight and fulfil our NATO obligations.

“Ministers must reboot defence plans now by halting army cuts, ensuring our NATO obligations are fulfilled and renewing Britain’s moral contract with our Forces.”
