Which? response to comments from Sainsbury's boss on food costs amid latest trading results

Sue Davies, Which? Head of Food Policy, said:

“Sainsbury’s warning that food prices won't come down to pre-Russian invasion levels, despite inflation starting to ease, will be more bad news for the millions of customers who have been struggling to feed themselves and their loved ones. 

"The company also highlights the performance of its convenience stores, which tend to be more expensive than larger branches and rarely stock budget range items.

“While it’s important for businesses to do well, there is no doubt that Sainsbury’s and all the major supermarkets could be working harder to make food more affordable for customers who need help by committing to stocking essential budget line items in convenience stores and by making pricing clearer, so consumers can easily compare prices in-store and with other supermarkets.”
