Which? response to Tesco comments that inflation is beginning to ease

There is still a long way to go before food prices become manageable for many people so Tesco and other supermarkets must stock budget lines in all their stores and make sure their pricing is up to scratch so people can find the best value.

Sue Davies, Which? Head of Food Policy, said:

“While it is encouraging to hear Tesco say inflation is starting to ease, our research shows some essential ingredients needed to make everyday meals are up to double what they were this time last year, so it's clear customers are still feeling the pain.

“Tesco and other supermarkets should be putting budget ranges in all stores, particularly convenience stores where people may be struggling to access affordable food.

“Which? recently reported Tesco to the CMA as we believe unclear pricing on clubcard deals could be breaking the law. Tesco should put their customers first and act urgently to address this so people can easily find the best value.”
