Amazon criticised during PMQs for allowing illegal stamps from China

During Prime Minister's Question time today, Craig Mackinlay MP (South Thanet, Conservative) said Amazon had been facilitating the sale of counterfeit postage stamps from China, virtually perfect except for the bar code. He had contacted the NCA and Trading Standards and had received "woeful responses" and had sent his complaint to the Serious Fraud Office and the Economic Crime Unit of the City of London Police. "Amazon are patently facilitating remittances of illegal-gotten cash, I believe in contravention of the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981."

Standing in for Rishi Sunak, Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden replied that the Home Secretary would have heard the remarks. He added that the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill did put duties on online platforms. If fraud was being perpetrated, the police should take action.
