Jim McMahon responds to food price inflation hitting another record high

Jim McMahon OBE MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, responding to food price inflation hitting another record high, said:

“13 years of Tory economic failure have created a perfect storm where the public are not only facing gaps on supermarket shelves but rocketing costs continue to squeeze households and food producers.

“There is so much the Tories could be doing to not just ease the burden on households and firms, but to make longer term fixes to strengthen our economy. Instead, they’re happy to just let working people pick up the tab for their mismanagement.

“By making our energy supply more secure, Labour would ease the pressure on families and businesses. By cutting business rates, strengthening supply chains and prioritising British food production, we can tackle these problems and build a better Britain."
