Wes Streeting responds to NHS staff survey data

Wes Streeting MP, Labour's Shadow Health & Social Care Secretary, responding to NHS staff survey data, said:

“Record numbers of patients are waiting for treatment and putting their lives on pause. NHS staff are slogging their guts out, but there simply aren't enough of them. Staff are exasperated by how overstretched they are, and one in three wouldn't be happy for their family to be treated by their service. We cannot go on like this.

“Jeremy Hunt should swallow his pride and nick Labour's plan to double medical school places and train 10,000 more nurses in his Budget next week.”

Only a quarter of staff (26.4%) agree “there are enough staff at my organisation for me to do my job properly”, down from 27.2% in 2021. Ambulance staff are the least likely to say there are enough staff in their organisation (21.3%) 

Meanwhile, only 63% said that if a friend or relative needed treatment, they would be happy with the standard of care provided by the organisation, down on last year and the lowest of any of the past 5 years (2021: 67.8%, 2020: 74.2%, 2019: 71.5%, 2018: 71.0%)
