Prospect: Sizewell C delays jeopardising UK's net zero and energy security targets

Prospect union has commented on reports that the final investment decision on Sizewell C may not conclude before the end of 2024.

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect union, said:

"Dither and delay from government on new nuclear are jeopardising our ability to meet the UK’s net zero and energy security targets.

“We welcomed the creation of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, but simply launching a new department without any drive to speed up this process won’t help us reach these critical goals.

“The Chancellor must use the upcoming budget to announce the launch of a fully-funded Great British Nuclear to give private investors the confidence they need to commit capital. With all but one of our existing nuclear reactors due to come offline by the end of the decade, there is no time to lose.”
