£2 bus fare cap extended and £80 million for buses: transport charity reacts

Responding to the announcement of up a three month extension to the £2 bus fare cap and £80 million of government funding to support English bus services from Aril 1 2023 to 30 June 2023, Paul Tuohy from Campaign for Better Transport said:

“This is a very welcome announcement and a great success for Campaign for Better Transport. Having met with the Secretary of State for Transport last month and requested an extension to the £2 bus fare cap, we are delighted that we’ve been listened to. Government now needs to market this fantastic scheme to attract non-bus users on board."

“We also welcome the extension of vital funding for the bus network which can hopefully prevent the widespread service cuts we have been fearing. This will reassure communities across the country who are reliant on buses to access work, education, and healthcare. However, another extension only gets us so far. We are urging Government to implement long-term funding reform to avoid more uncertainty and give everyone access to affordable and reliable bus services."
