Foreign Affairs Committee to visit the Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre as part of inquiry

On Monday 20 February members of the Foreign Affairs Committee will visit the UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre (CMIC) in Nottinghamshire.

The visit will help inform the Foreign Affairs Committee’s inquiry into critical minerals. Critical minerals are essential to the UK’s economy and national security but are vulnerable to supply chain disruption due to the UK’s reliance on overseas sources. China dominates the market in both mid-stream and down-stream processing of a number of critical minerals, particularly rare earths, which are required for the UK’s green transition.

The CMIC supports the Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy by gathering and analysing intelligence on UK industry demand and UK access to critical minerals to inform policymakers and industry. The visit will offer the opportunity for the Committee to learn more about critical minerals and to explore questions around resilience and security.
