Ed Miliband responding to Citizens Advice figures showing three million ran out of prepayment meter credit last year

Ed Miliband MP, Labour’s Shadow Climate Secretary, commenting on Citizens Advice figures showing three million ran out of prepayment meter credit last year, said:

“It’s outrageous that people on prepayment meters have to pay more for their energy. Why should those with the least have to pay more to heat their homes and put the lights on? It’s unjustifiable and morally wrong. 

“The Government has been warned countless times about how this unfair prepayment penalty is hitting those on the lowest incomes, but refuse to act.

“That’s why Labour will make sure that no one is paying over the odds for the same gas and electricity that everyone else gets.

“Only Labour can bring down energy bills once and for all with our plan to make Britain a clean energy superpower by 2030 with homegrown, cheaper, clean power. We will build a fairer, stronger economy, getting it growing so we can lift living standards for all.”
