Peter Kyle comments on today’s talks between the UK and Irish governments

Peter Kyle MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland,commenting on today’s talks between the UK and Irish governments, said:

“After months of neglect and inaction from the Tories, signs of thawing relations between the UK and Irish governments are very welcome.

"The only way to find solutions to the outstanding issues with the protocol has always been through negotiation and the Government should now drop the redundant Northern Ireland Protocol bill.

"The coming weeks will be crucial for Northern Ireland, whose communities and businesses deserve a functioning political system. They cannot afford a false dawn when a deal is in sight.

"The Labour party will always be an Honest Broker for Northern Ireland and work tirelessly to protect the Belfast/Good Friday agreement in all its parts.”
