Lisa Nandy comments on fears that thousands of British sponsors for Ukrainian refugees may be forced to pull out from hosting

Lisa Nandy MP, Labour's Shadow Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities Secretary, commenting on fears that thousands of British sponsors for Ukrainian refugees may be forced to pull out from hosting, said:

“British households across the country have stepped up to help Ukrainian families fleeing this dreadful conflict, but the Conservatives' inaction on the cost-of-living crisis means thousands could be left out of pocket for opening up their home.

“If the Government do not act now, they will risk a huge number of Ukrainian refugees becoming homeless this winter.

“Labour’s fully funded plan to freeze energy bills this winter would ease the energy crisis meaning that households will not pay a penny more on their bills, saving the typical household £1,000 and easing the pressure on those generously hosting Ukrainians.”
