LGA responds to NAO report into grassroots sport and physical activity

Responding to a National Audit Office report into participation in grassroots sport and physical activity, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chair of the LGA’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said:

“This report is right to set out the need for an effective cross-government strategy to deliver the support and infrastructure needed to help our communities experience the benefits of being active, something the LGA has long called for. This requires accessible, affordable opportunities that can be integrated into everyday life.

“This week, the LGA joined a coalition of sport and physical activity organisations to set out what is needed to help the sector thrive, reach a more diverse audience, and transform the role our sector can play in the national renewal. This includes the delivery of key cross-government priorities including Levelling Up, strengthening public services, driving economic growth and Net Zero.

“The sport and physical activity sector is ready to deliver. We look forward to working with government to achieve these benefits.”
