On global food security the Prime Minister also said that the bombardment of cities and infrastructure and the blockade of ports is crippling Ukraine’s ability to export its produce. He added that impacts are being felt most by countries with very high food insecurity in the Middle East and Africa exacerbating an already existing crisis of global food shortages – an issue he planned to discuss in detail at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting this week.  

To combat this the Prime Minister said that the UK should play its part and offer leadership at these international fora to: set out our financial assistance for the most vulnerable; drain the grain from Ukraine and drive demand-side action with partners to bring down prices. 

The Prime Minister concluded Cabinet by saying that the UK should be front and centre of the global effort to tackle food insecurity, using all available levers, and harnessing our expertise.
